Clayton, MO
A metric speed limit sign in Clayton MO. In the 1970s the signs were placed on major arterial entrances to Clayton, originally at the suggestion of Dr. Anton deS. Brasunas, who was a retired University of Missouri professor and then-manager of USMA’s Kansas, Missouri, and southern Illinois region. His suggestion was implemented by then-mayor James C. Laflin.
The signs were eventually removed due to complaints that they were confusing, which in turn caused enforcement issues for the Police Department.
This photo appeared in the September 1977 Metric Bulletin, and the signs were also featured in the October 1986 USMA Newsletter.
